52 Weeks in the Word - Week 15

We have been reading together for 15 weeks now.  Hopefully you have found this time together a time of growth and blessing.  Our prayer is that you will continue to grow in the Lord over the next coming weeks.

Today, we are entering Holy Week, the week following up to Easter.  While our assigned reading will not include the Easter passage, I pray you are still able to see the Gospel message, its importance, and gain a new understanding of what it means for God to send His Son to be our Savior this year as we continue to read through this journey through the Old Testament.

A brief recap of Week 14's discussions:

  • David followed customs and traditions when he put his concubines away for the rest of their days.  It was also for their own benefit to avoid having to hear what others would say about them.
  • This same account reminds us that our sins have consequences that not only affect us, but also others.
  • The giants were back in chapter 21, and we learn that some had 6 fingers and 6 toes.
  • The 4 brother giants fell by David or his servants.
Looking ahead to Week 15:
The reading for Week 15 includes: 1 Kings 3- 20.

In this week's reading we continue reading in 1 Kings about Solomon as king.  In the first chapter of this week's reading we see Solomon does not ask the Lord for riches or fame, but an understanding heart to discern how to lead and judge the people.  The Lord not only granted Solomon that wisdom and understanding, but also blessed him with riches, honor, and said he would lengthen his days as long as he walks with Him.

It's interesting that the Bible's first record of Solomon's wisdom with the people is between two harlots and a baby.  This is yet another reminder that we can all have a part of this redemption story - we all have a purpose.  Christ came for us all.

We enjoyed hearing from you this week with your comments.  Please feel free to ask questions or give comments.

Blessings!
