52 Weeks in the Word - Week 17

It's Week 17!  Do you realize we are about 2 weeks away from being halfway through the Old Testament? What are your thoughts up to this point?  Reading the Bible through as a group has really not only encouraged us to keep reading and study a little deeper, but has helped us pick up different thoughts and perspectives that we might have missed without the group discussion.  Thank you so much for your questions and comments!

A brief recap of Week 16's discussions:

  • Others knew when Elijah would soon be leaving.  There were several similarities between him and Moses.
  • The practices the Kings participated in or lead were horrible.  What the people had to endure during that time was often unthinkable.  It is a miracle there were any faithful to the Lord who were left.
  • Week 16's readings had several of those passages that weren't included in your typical Sunday School lesson growing up in church.  So much wickedness, even the prophets didn't always seem to be following the path we would assume to be godly.  Many of the passages were hard to read because of the wickedness and brutality, but we also have the passages like the chariots of fire, which remind us of God's powerful presence still during this time in Scripture.
  • We should try not to get caught up in some of this tragic details, but keep our eyes on Jesus while we read!
Looking ahead to Week 17:
The reading for Week 17 includes: 2 Kings 16 - 1 Chronicles 9.

In this week's reading we will finish 2 Kings and 1 Chronicles.  From last week's reading you can probably guess we will be reading further in Chronicles about the various reigns of the kings. 1 Chronicles was believed to be written by Ezra, around 500-400 B.C.  We will read about genealogies in the first 9 chapters, so if you were trying to keep up,  here is another chance to gain a better understanding.  :)

We pray you all have a blessed week.  Keep asking questions and commenting on what you read.  We are all learning with one another!

Blessings!
