52 Weeks in the Word - Week 7

How is the reading going? Today, we are beginning Week 7 of 52 Weeks in the Word.  Last week's reading was rich for thought.  It brought on several meaningful conversations within our home.  We also discovered there's a lot more to the Book of Numbers than actual numbers.

A brief recap of Week 6's discussions:

  • Over 600,000 men were counted, ready for battle of the children of Israel.
  • The Lord gave us a visual of how he set all these people up by tribe to camp around the temple.
  • God was still leading them cloud by day, fire by night... other's could also find them and welcome join in their camp.
  • Redemption money was mentioned, later Christ will stand in to be their redemption as He is ours today.
  • We also saw the Nazarite Vow.
  • Moses' cry out to God, pleading for help or death.  And God answering that prayer in a significant way.  Ministry leaders could probably relate to this.
  • God answering their complaining with what they want, only to punish them with death in the end.  Lesson learned, we should only want what God wants for our lives!

Looking ahead to Week 7:
The reading for Week 7 includes: Numbers 15 - 33

This week we will learn even more about the Children of Israel.  We even see the death of Miriam and Aaron, and read about Moses' error that keeps him from leading Israel to the Promised Land.  We also read about Balaam, who plays an important role, a talking donkey (one of my favorite passages).  This week's reading should keep your attention while you read.  Remember to look for ways you see Christ and the Gospel message while you read.

May the Lord bless you as you continue to dig deeper in His Word this week.  Keep the questions and comments coming!

Blessings!

  1. I wanted to share a little information on what I've learned about the reference to "the judgment of Urim" found in Numbers 27.
We first see Urim and also Thummim mentioned Exodus as items associated with the high priest's breastplate. It is believed they were used for decision-making and communicating with God. We do not know what they look like, but from other references, it is believed God communicated His will to the Israelites with this tool. In Hebrew, the word Urim means "lights" and Thummin means "perfection.
Interestingly enough, this Scripture in chapter 27 is a foreshadowing of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, as He is called the "Light of the World."
