52 Weeks in the Word - Week 9
Last week we began reading the book of Deuteronomy, and we were reminded of what the Lord had done for the children of Israel. Had we already read almost the exact same accounts previously? Yes, but we have also seen that when something is repeated in the Bible, we should pay attention! A reminder of God's provision, goodness, and mercy is never a wasted moment. We see that Moses was passing this information on to the children of Israel who did not have first-hand account of these events because they had not yet been born. It is important for us to pass on our testimonies to future generations of what we have seen the Lord do.
What are some examples of God's character that we read about in Week 8?
- In Chapter 4, we read He is a jealous God.
- We also read He is a merciful God.
A brief recap of Week 8's discussions:
- The children of Israel messed up several times, yet God kept His promises and they are given the Promised Land. However, Moses, the leader, and Aaron, the priest, were kept from the Promised Land. Our leaders have a great responsibility and have a higher accountability.
- The giants return in our reading this week under a new name where we gain a bit more history and understanding.
- Not only do we read about the giants, but we see that the children of Israel fought them... and won!
- They are commanded to teach the commands to their children.
- The children of Israel were not chosen because they were the greatest in number. Remember, when the promise was made to Abraham, he had no children at all. When they made it to Egypt, they were 70 in number.
Looking ahead to Week 9:
The reading for Week 9 includes: Deuteronomy 20 - Joshua 8.
This week we see the new leadership of the children of Israel go to Joshua. Moses gives a final blessing, and God begins to speak and direct Joshua. We read about Rahab and find she already knows quite a bit about the Lord. We also read about the memorial stones.
This should be a rich time in the Word this week. May the Lord bless you as you continue to dig deeper in His Word. Keep the questions and comments coming!
Blessings!
