Reading Through the Word - Week 10

Can you believe we are ready for Week 10?  You all are doing great with your reading, and keeping up with the discussions.  Again, I want to encourage you all to have a moment of prayer with the Lord prior to your daily reading.  Some of the reading can be difficult to grasp in understanding or why it seems to be repeated over and over.  Let the Lord reveal what HE wants you to take from the reading.

A brief recap of Week 9's discussions:

  • We learn they were supposed to read the law at the Feast of Tabernacles every 7 years; however, they were also supposed to be telling these things to their children, including what the Lord has done.
  • God and Moses both knew the Children of Israel were not going to listen and would turn from God after Moses dies because they didn't listen very good while he was living!
  • Moses goes up on the mountain and sees the promises land and dies, and God buries him.
  • Joshua now is leading the children of Israel, about to cross the Jordon and take over Jericho.
  • Rahab helps the spies.  In return, the spies promise no harm would come to her or her family when they come to destroy Jericho.
  • Joshua stretched out his arm with his sword toward the city Ai until it was completely destroyed - which took all day.  Moses had a similar encounter without a sword.
  • Joshua also wrote a copy of the law on the stones outside the destroyed city for them all to read.  He also read every word to them after this battle to remind them not to sin!!  Even to the children.  This shows it was important to have a copy of the word or law available.  We are expected to need reminding at this point.
Looking ahead to Week 10:
The reading for Week 9 includes: Joshua 9 - Judges 6.

This week we finish the book of Joshua and begin the book of Judges.  There are battles and outcomes, some of which will require us to trust God's plan more than our own understanding.

The book of Judges is believed to be written by Samuel, but it is possible that it was written by another prophet, around 1050-1043 B.C.  So, a little over 1,000 years before Christ was born, the Book of Judges was written.  Keep that in mind while you read this week as you search for Jesus and the gospel message in the Scriptures for this week.

Blessings!
