52 Weeks in the Word - Week 16
Welcome to Week 16! Yesterday was Easter. After reading in the Old Testament with you all, the gift of Jesus as our Savior had a far greater value to me. Last week we saw a terrible shift in the beliefs and leadership in Israel. It seemed to go from bad to worse with each new king. At the end of last week's reading, we started reading about the prophet Elijah. At one point, he was the only prophet left. Can you actually imagine what that must have felt like? Well, we get a sense of what Elijah was feeling after a period of constantly having to flea from people wanting to kill him. He wanted to give up..., but God had a different plan!
A brief recap of Week 15's discussions:
- Solomon had a similar weakness like his father: women, especially women of other beliefs.
- Wives were looked at as a status symbol or a possession. We assume he did not have a good relationship with all 700.
- There was an important lesson with the two prophets in Chapter 13. Seeking the Lord for confirmation is vital after someone speaks a word over you. In addition to confirming it with the Lord, we need to check and make sure it does not go against Scripture.
Looking ahead to Week 16:
The reading for Week 16 includes: 1 Kings 21 - 2 Kings 15.
In this week's reading we will finish 1 Kings and begin 2 Kings. We will continue to read about King Ahab and Jezebel. Elijah and Elisha are prophets now, and we will read about Elijah ascending to Heaven. Then Elisha performs miracles. In chapter 6 we read about a floating ax head and an interesting encounter of the blinded Syrians. Further on we read about Jezebel's violent death, and eventually the death of Ahab's family. We also read about a miracle that happens in Elisha's tomb in Chapter 13, so be on the lookout for that as well.
We pray you all have a blessed week. Keep asking questions and commenting on what you read. We are all learning with one another!
Blessings!
