52 Weeks in the Word - Week 38

 Welcome to Week 38!

Last week we finished reading the book of Ezekiel and began reading in the Book of Daniel.  The first 6 chapters of Daniel may have included some familiar events such as Shadrach, Meshach, and abed-Nego being thrown into the fiery furnace,  the hand writing on the wall and Daniel interpreting it to the king, and Daniel being thrown into the lion's den.  It's also important to take note that the leadership has changed several times during this first part of Daniel.  Looking at who is king while reading the passages of Scripture will help you determine the order of the events.

The remaining reading of the Book of Daniel for this week jumps arounds, so keep that in mind.  Do not let that confuse you.

Chapters 1 - 6 of Daniel describes his life and times; chapters 7 - 12 describe Daniels visions.  Chapter 7's vision took place in time between chapters 4 and 5.

Looking ahead to Week 38:

The reading for Week 38 includes: Daniel 7 - Joel 3.

While reading Daniel's visions, chapter 7, for example, discusses some of the last days, similar descriptions are found in Revelation.  We should have a little more to discuss this week if you are interested in Revelation.

We will also read Hosea, written by the prophet around 715 B.C.  It can be seen as a unique love story, but one with a much deeper meaning - God's love for His people, mirrored by this human couple.  One commentary suggests as you read, look for ways you might be like Gomer or her actions, and watch God, through Hosea, display true love.

The last book we will read this week is Joel.  There's only 3 chapters in the small book, written by the prophet Joel between 850 - 750 B.C.  The book of Joel is a type of wake-up call for Judah.  God was trying to get their attention.

We look forward to hearing your comments on this week's reading!  Many blessings to you all this week.
