52 Weeks in the Word - Week 8
Week 8! Can you believe March 1st is Saturday? At this point we have almost finished 4 books of the Bible. This week's reading was thought provoking and at times, difficult to understand the necessities of war for the Children of Israel. Our God is Sovern. Nothing surprises God. His plans are the very best! So, clearly, as we finish Numbers, we can now understand the book is not simply about counting, but really, so much more.
Where did we see examples of the Christ or the Gospel message in Week 7?
- In Numbers 27, we see a foreshadowing of Christ with the judgment of Urim. For more information on this, see Week 7's comments.
What did you learn about God's character this week?
A brief recap of Week 7's discussions:
- Don't complain! - This seems to be an important lesson that was repeated several times.
- Balaam and the talking donkey with the Angel that only the donkey could see at first. The Angel of the Lord was an adversary against him. The donkey could see the Angel, but Balaam couldn't. There's a lesson here. The donkey's behavior was out of the ordinary in that he was not obeying Balaam, but he was trying to protect him from something Balaam could not see. Sometimes there might be someone or something standing in our way that we see as a negative, but in reality they (like the donkey) are there to protect us from something (like the angel) we don't see.
Looking ahead to Week 8:
The reading for Week 8 includes: Numbers 34 - Deuteronomy 19
This week we will read in Chapter 6 one of the most significant chapters in Deuteronomy. The Shema was a daily prayer for ancient Israel, and is a familiar passage of scripture.
"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your might." (Deut. 6:4-5)
In verses 6-9 of the same chapter, they were given further instruction, including the command to teach future generations. As a homeschool family, Deuteronomy 6:5-6 was our Bible verse. We find in Mark 12:29-31, Jesus gives us the same command.
"The most important is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God,
the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with
all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind
and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'You shall
love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other
commandment greater than these."
We are so thankful for Jesus who shed His blood for us.
May the Lord bless you as you continue to dig deeper in His Word this week. Keep the questions and comments coming!
Blessings!
