52 Weeks in the Word - Week 17

It's Week 17!  Do you realize we are about 2 weeks away from being halfway through the Old Testament? What are your thoughts up to this point?  Reading the Bible through as a group has really not only encouraged us to keep reading and study a little deeper, but  has helped us pick up different thoughts and perspectives that we might have missed without the group discussion.  Thank you so much for your questions and comments! A brief recap of Week 16's discussions: Others knew when Elijah would soon be leaving.  There were several similarities between him and Moses. The practices the Kings participated in or lead were horrible.  What the people had to endure during that time was often unthinkable.  It is a miracle there were any faithful to the Lord who were left.    Week 16's readings had several of those passages that weren't included in your typical Sunday School lesson growing up in church.  So much wickedness, even the prophets...

52 Weeks in the Word - Week 16

Welcome to Week 16!  Yesterday was Easter. After reading in the Old Testament with you all, the gift of Jesus as our Savior had a far greater value to me. Last week we saw a terrible shift in the beliefs and leadership in Israel.  It seemed to go from bad to worse with each new king.  At the end of last week's reading, we started reading about the prophet Elijah.  At one point, he was the only prophet left.  Can you actually imagine what that must have felt like?  Well, we get a sense of what Elijah was feeling after a period of constantly having to flea from people wanting to kill him.  He wanted to give up..., but God had a different plan!   A brief recap of Week 15's discussions: Solomon had a similar weakness like his father: women, especially women of other beliefs. Wives were looked at as a status symbol or a possession.  We assume he did not have a good relationship with all 700. There was an important lesson with th...

52 Weeks in the Word - Week 15

We have been reading together for 15 weeks now.  Hopefully you have found this time together a time of growth and blessing.  Our prayer is that you will continue to grow in the Lord over the next coming weeks.   Today, we are entering Holy Week, the week following up to Easter.  While our assigned reading will not include the Easter passage, I pray you are still able to see the Gospel message, its importance, and gain a new understanding of what it means for God to send His Son to be our Savior this year as we continue to read through this journey through the Old Testament.  A brief recap of Week 14's discussions: David followed customs and traditions when he put his concubines away for the rest of their days.  It was also for their own benefit to avoid having to hear what others would say about them. This same account reminds us that our sins have consequences that not only affect us, but also others. The giants were back in chapter 21, and we ...

52 Weeks in the Word - Week 14

Week 14!  Local friends, this week in middle Tennessee has been most unique due to all the tornado warnings and rain!  How is everyone doing with their reading?  If you have fallen a little behind, please do not give up!  Jump in, listen to the Word or take it with you everywhere you go, and jump in with our conversations!  We want to keep hearing from you!! For those who attended Gallatin Church of God of Prophecy this Sunday, you may have recognized the topic the pastor was preaching on.  He spoke about David dancing before the Lord as a worship to Him.  Several of the groups last week brought up this topic in discussion.  True worship comes from the heart!  When we cast aside the things that come between us and the Lord, any distractions, etc., it opens the ability for true worship.  Yes, when we really consider worship to the Lord, I believe we will be excited and won't want to contain our praise! Thankfully, there are many wa...
